11.11 Girl's Day or Boy's Day

November 11th, whether it is in college or high school, the most discussed issue is
presumably the anecdotes of Bachelor's day.

On that very day, the bachelor may gather together by twos and threes, celebrating in their own types of manner, sharing their strength of being abstinent enough to be single while others have unfortunatelyfallen into the abysmal love affair (often a good excuse).

In college, the case can’t be more frequent and recently evolve into another pattern of existence: Girl’s day. So, what on earth does this absurd evolution come into being? Do bachelors bow to the inevitable and acquiesce to the reality by being less cheerful and turning into complete taciturnity? Given that it is true, but what makes it has anything related to girls?

In Si Chuan University, the annual November 11th is characterized by sending gifts from boys to girls. Normally, the popular girls are the focus of the bachelors, whose gifts are often bunches of roses or boxes of chocolate. Bachelors, however, so long as they have female classmates, are to be the focus of being consoled, receiving messages from them. Thus, the November 11th has transcended its limit and the blessing visits the girls instead. Despite the fact that boys will spend fortunes on their desired one and run a risk of being refused, they are driven by the “animal instinct” and are willing to do so.

After all, it is the bachelor’s valentine and they are ready to give it a shot.

Young Chinese initiate "11.11 Bachelor Day"

November 11, a day represented by four digits of 1, has been dubbed "Bachelor Day" by young single Chinese.

Statistics in 2004 show that among Chinese in the 22 to 49 age bracket, males outnumber females by 16.97 million, which means tens of millions of single Chinese in this age group. The "Bachelor Day" has been initiated by single college students and, although enjoys no holiday leave, has become a vogue of the day among single white collars.

According to a survey conducted by the China Youth Daily and Sohu.com nearly 80 percent interviewees don't think bachelordom is the substitute name for loneliness, solitude and boredom. On the contrary, singleness sometimes means more independence, more freedom and unrestrained planning of life.

When explaining the reasons for being single 40 percent interviewees believe growing self-consciousness among the young has raised the bar for selecting the other half. 20 percent netizens believe it is because social environment has become more tolerant and being single is facing less pressure of public opinion.

In just a few years, this day becomes a hot festival in China, especially in campus. In the Chinese language, a single man is called "光棍", which literally means "bare stick", and the Arabic number "1" is very much like a bare stick in shape. As 11.11 has 4 “bare sticks”, the day becomes single guys' day.

In this day, single guys would like to eat out together, and some guys are encouraged to say "I love you" to girls of there hearts. Now this is not a day just for guys, sometimes single girls would also do some thing for fun.

This day has no traditions. It's a day of youth, a day for students.(take from:http://wuhanstories.blogspot.com/2006/11/1111-single-guys-day.html)
